Taking It Slow in Goa: A Solo Traveler's Guide to a Relaxing Escape!

My first solo trip began in Goa, where I spent five days ( A exploring the state on a scooter and discovering some hidden gems). Since I had already visited Goa in 2022 with my partner, I made sure to visit some isolated and unconventional places and try out the local Goan cuisine. I will provide detailed information in bullet points about the dishes I tried and also offer recommendations on where to stay and how to have a cost-effective trip. Additionally, I would suggest taking it slow if you are traveling alone.

  • Accommodation: If you are traveling alone, consider staying in hostels. There are plenty of options available at affordable prices. It's best to explore and negotiate deals in person rather than booking online. There are mixed dorms with 4 or 6 beds available. I personally stayed at Zostel, Morjim, but there are other options such as Whoopers in South and North Goa, as well as local hostels. My stay at Zostel cost me around 5,000 rupees for 5 nights. I would recommend Hostler in Arpora, as it is beautifully located amidst greenery.
  • Cost-effective Tips: For budget travelers, I suggest having a light breakfast and opting for coconut water (40 rupees) and fruits. You can enjoy a heavy lunch, which would cost around 150 rupees. Try visiting local Goan restaurants, as they are much cheaper and offer traditional thalis. Additionally, I recommend visiting Goa during the offseason, as you will find cheaper scooter rentals and hostels. You can rent a scooter for as low as 400 rupees, and I personally rented a Navi for 300 rupees per day.
  • Arambol Sweet Water Lake: I highly recommend spending half a day at Arambol Sweet Water Lake. You will be mesmerized by the peace and tranquility of nature. You can even swim in the lake, but be cautious of snakes. This place is popular among Russian visitors and offers a calm and serene environment without any network connectivity.
  • Ashwem Beach: If you enjoy watching sunsets, you will love Ashwem Beach. Although it may not be as popular among tourists, the sunset view is truly beautiful and aesthetic.
  • Mandrem Beach: For those who love music and hippie nights, Mandrem Beach is the place to be. It is famous for its hippie nights, where people dance and play music, including drums and guitars.
  • Dr. Salim Ali Sanctuary: This bird sanctuary is home to a variety of migrating birds. It is located on Choroa Island, and you need to take a ferry from Panaji to reach Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. There is also a mangrove forest, although I personally did not spot any birds. The best time to witness migratory birds is in December.
  • Boat Ride near Aguada Fort: This activity is more for the experience rather than a highly recommended one.

Finally, I would like to recommend a café called Lush by Anjuna. Although the drinks can be pricey, the view from this beachside café is truly unparalleled. Another local recommendation is Vinayak Restaurant, known for their delicious local cuisine. Don't forget to try their local sweet specialty.
